Extremely upset and lost

After seeing my PM doc for a few months we have parted ways. I just didn't feel like I was getting any where with him and he was not very understanding nor did he show any compassion for REALLY trying to help me. I hurt my neck a couple weeks ago during the Thanksgiving holiday and when I called his office the nurse told me "if it's that bad go the ER or your pcp." So I did, and apparently that didn't go over well with them, as well as my telling him that I was also seeking a neurosurgeon for a second opinion. So, here I am without a doctor, except my PCP, and she really doesn't know any other doctor to refer me to. My PM was the one who was providing my scripts for me, and now I'm going to have to rely on PCP for my medications. Which she is also limited to prescribing b/c she is actually only a nurse practioner. My only option seems to be to investing and researching doctors myself. I hate to just call up doctors offices and "refer myself" to them for an appointment. That just seems awkward and weird to me.
I am just lost and so upset. I have no idea where to start. And I feel like no one will help me. I feel as if I'm starting from the beginning all over again. I am in such a horrible amount of pain and have no idea where to start.

  • See if the nurse practitioner will "refer" you to another family doctor who is an MD. She knows you very well and your current situation. She can write in your referral what is going on and that she is unable to take you on as a chronic pain patient. In this way, maybe the new GP will give you meds temporarily while you are being referred to another PM clinic. The sooner you start on this, the better and I hope everything works out in your favor. Take care
