Surgery Approved!!

:D And, it's not even Wednesday!! :D :D

When I returned to the house this afternoon, there was a voice mail from the woman who was the facilitator for my appeal. In a very business-like voice, she said she was calling to tell me that my appeal on Wednesday at noon (like I had several going on at one time) had been cancelled. Then she went on to say that the reason why it was cancelled was because the decision had been reversed, and my surgery was APPROVED.

Apparently the doctor on the review panel received all my letters, MRIs etc. that were in the packet I submitted as part of my appeal, read through them and determined the initial decision to deny surgery as "medically unnecessary" was incorrect...and it didn't go any further. The review was cancelled, and I was given the go ahead.

Needless to say, I am very happy that I will not have to spend tomorrow figuring out what I need to say, and the rest of the night getting nervous!! I'm glad I spent a lot of time making my appeal as complete as I could. I guess it helped.

It was too late in the day to call my doctor to get a date for surgery. I'll do that in the morning. It is really weird being so excited about something that I know will be very difficult, painful and hard to recover from...and, ultimately, we don't know if it will "work" or not....but I am really thrilled.

Thanks to all of you for your support. Please save all your thoughts and prayers for later in the month when I have surgery!!

xx Gwennie

  • Oh I'm so very happy for you! For some reason, you weren't supposed to have your surgery earlier, and this was the fates' way of putting it off. Too bad it came with so much stress for you, I'm just so glad it is finally over and you will be soon getting your date! Now for the nervousness of preparing for your surgery! If I lived closer, I'd be cooking a few freezer dinners for your recovery!
