Has anyone here had much conversation with their surgeon about addressing the facet joints in the neck either along with the intervertebral disc or instead of? Anyone here ever had any kind of facet joint surgery in the neck?

  • Yes, I had the facets done in the neck at c3 and c4, which did not work at all. When I informed my PM that they were unsucessful, they said I now had to try the cervical epidural. Same result, nothing.
I think I have been everywhere and done everything to help explain my neck pain and then they refer me back to PM.
I've handled it with MS contin, but it's coming through again and I find myself trying to hold up my head or pound on the neck muscles to get some relief.
Just as an aside, I had facets in the lumbar area that gave help, but it was only temporary. I'm now scheduled for RFA and have decided that this will be the last try, enough is enough.
Where in the neck will they do the facets?I hope you have more success than I did!
  • I had a surgeon suggest surgery for the C7-T1 facet joint. His answer was to do a fusion because if you stop the motion you stop the pain.

Not sure if this is the "approved" method but he seemed pretty confident. Before doing surgery he wanted to try injections to see if this was the true pain generator.
