Knee pain

I had cytoplasty on my left knee just under a year ago (Oct 2/09).
I was told I would feel good as ever by my one year anniversary and am in worse pain.
I am still doing physio and back to wearing a brace. My knee buckles on me when walking and standing without warning. Not buckling forward, but side to side like I a have no muscle strength at all.
I really don't know where to go from here. I am 39 years young and hopefully have alot of life ahead of me and didn't want to live it this way.
I would never of had this done if I knew I would be feeling this way now.
Has anyone had this procedure down that can give me some advice.
My physio dr is trying to help me the best he can. My surgeon is hard to get a hold of and only get 6mths appts with him which he says be patient.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated..
