I had a laminectomy 8 weeks ago yesterday and I'm still so miserable. I'm looking for anyone who has had this surgery and can tell me what to expect, if I'm on the right road and it just takes a long time, or whatever other information I can gather about where I should be at 8 weeks and what can I expect. Thanks. Sue

8 weeks out from any spinal surgery is really not a long time.
Its difficult for us to provide you with any sound information without knowing some more details.

If you could provide us with:
    - How long did you have the problem before surgery
    - What Discs where involved
    - Was their any disc impingement on a nerve root
    - How long was your physical therapy
    - What medications are you on

You will find many members here who have had laminectomy surgery. I had it done back in the late 70's and 80's at the L4/L5 and L5/S1 disc levels.

Everyone's recovery rate is different. A lot also depends on the complexity of the surgery, how long it took and your initial physical therapy treatments.

Once again, Welcome to Spine-Health. Be patient,
8 weeks, and you are still a babe in the woods in terms of spinal recovery time

  • Hi, Sue! Welcome to Spine Health.

You might want to make a post under the back and neck surgery forum, not everybody posts up here. I am sure you will get tons of support down there!

    Hope you feel better soon!
