Back, hip and leg pain worse this week?

CathyOCCathyO Posts: 7
Greetings,

I've had back pain for about 6 months. Getting more or worse pain this week in bak of left leg, around left hip, left knee, and middle of back. Paranoid about that equina cauda? IS that like a strangulating of the nerves? I want to make sure I don't get that.

  • You should probably let your spine doctor know what is going on right away. Listen to your body.

  • I went in on Friday to see nurse. The doctor is out on vacation back tomorrow. I have an apointment then and we'll go over the MRI too then and I have a list of questions for him.

  • Not a good appointment today. Doctor blew me off. First, he didn't have a copy of the MRI or reivew it before the appointment. I had a print out of the report (which he didn't read) and I had the pictures from the MRI on my computer. He only focused on the L5 area. He didn't see/view the report where it says there is disk bulging/protrusion on 4 discs, not just one. He said no surgery. He said because the cortizone shots didn't help, he didn't know what to do, it could get better on its own, I could try massage, chiropractic, acupuncture, life-changing modification. Well, I've already been in physical therapy for three months, and lost 15 pounds. I'm not lifting more than 10 pounds at work and home. I'm walking a lot more. I'm concerned because the pain has worsened. I told him that. I'm concerned it's getting worse. He said it's fine as long as I can still walk and my leg's not giving out. Ummm.... wouldn't it be better to actualy treat it before it gets worse? He gave me more pain pills a stronger strenght. I'm going to call some more doctors tomorrow for second opinions. Should I just call 2-3 different orthopedic surgeons or should I check on other doctors?
  • I'm sorry but you should get another opinion. It's hard to hear he didn't have any recommendations.

I have the same issue but mine has recommended surgery and two other said give it time. Just finished a pack of Medrol started PT and going for an epidural next week and I go back to the surgeon to talk to him about this.
