asthma/coughing and ACDF surgery? Should I delay surgery?

Hi, the surgeon wants me to have ACDF surgery. However, my Fall asthma/coughing has now arrived and I don't know if it would be possible to deal with coughing and the surgery at the same time. I may be forced to stay indoors until the surgery heals a bit, when I go outside the coughing becomes very hard and painful. Any suggestions??
