Upper Leg pain every morning

Good evening. I have a question for everyone. Every day when I wake up I have excruciating pain on the right side of my outer thigh it radiates down the leg and sometimes into the groin area. I have tried sleeping with a pillow between my legs, no pillow, sleeping on the right side and sleeping on the left side no matter what I do I always wake up with this pain. I have had a spinal fusion back in 09 L4L5 which failed horribly. Every injection there is out there, physical therapy 3 times on land one in water. I take Percocets 10/325 up to 5 a day as needed and a fentanly patch 75mcg changing every 3 days. The doctor has also prescribed hydroxazine, and now clonazapam for anxiety and prozac for the depression. I have been dealing with back issues since 07 when I was in a four car, car accident. I had a SCS place in april just had it removed 3 weeks ago due to not doing any good for me at all could not come off my oral meds at all and then the battery flipped over so after speaking with my surgeron we decided since I was not getting any relief and was going to have to have the surgery one way or another we opted to have it removed. I almost want to say that this pain has started since they have removed the battery pack from my lower right hip, but im not quite sure. All I know is the pain is debilitating and the pain pills do not help it at all. I almost dont want to even go to bed at night cause I know what the AM will bring! Has any one else ever had this kind of pain? the only way I know how to describe it is it feels like some one is taking a knife or sharp objects and taking it up and down in the same areas not cutting it just irritating it enough to drive me batty!!

Hope some one had some words of advice!!! Thanks Tina/IL

  • boy you read my mind
4 back surgeries and the last 6 years ago, remember that fusions can cause imbalance on the disc above the fusion which has happened to me.
last few months i also have had right leg pain to the mid leg from butt and it wakes me up every night especially when i sleep on right side. iit was so bad the other night it felt like hot poker going up leg. my pain dr wants to wait on mri and i am not sure i want another surgry. but it is so bad i would like to know what is going on. the only way i would have anther surgry if they tell me that i will be paralyze if i don't get it fixed. yes it is bad and yes it wakes me up and yes i will see pain dr today and ask for mri
    good luck
I have 4 fusions from L5-3, the latest last May '12 where they fixed my disc that broke. They went through my side this time. I take 40 mg of oxycontin 4x a day and 4 fenatyl lollipops 300 micro gms 4x a day.
