IOM monitoring experience

Last year I had a discectomy with a foraminotomy. The surgeon used IMO monitoring. This is the first time I had any surgery using that type of monitoring ( I've had numerous surgeries) When I woke up in recovery my head was throbbing , i put my hand on my head and there was blood on my scalp. I also had a swollen jaw. I was crying when I started to come out of anesthesia. I did not expect to wake up like that. I was told that scalp monitor probably causes scratch 0n scalp. When I got home I had DH look at my head it there were red raw spots on my scalp from scalp monitors!! I feel like something happened during surgery that I wasn't told about. I had my dh take pictures of my scalp and swollen jaw. Just doesn't seem right. Has anyone else had experience with IMO monitoring? I suspect that something might have fallen on me but I will never know.

  • I had some type of monitoring but not sure what it was called. You can ask the hospital for a copy of the surgeons reports and your hospital records. My hospital did not charge for any of the records. My surgeon gave me a copy of his reports. I always get a copy of all reports, test results, MRS or xrays. I had ACDF of C5-6 C 6-7. Let us know how you make ou.
