does nerve pain make you walk with a limp?

bluemoonshinebbluemoonshine Posts: 26
The past 2 weeks I've been having alot of pain and some weakness in my leg/foot mostly under the foot. Its off and on type pain but It gets bad enough at times that it makes me limp around. I can correct it and walk straight but it takes effort. Other times I can walk quickly with no pain. Which is why I dont understand why my brain is telling me to limp. Im probly not making much sence im pretty loopy from all the meds I just took. So does nerve pain ever make you guys walk with a limp?

  • Any nerve pain and weakness that affects the leg and foot yes you tend to limp,
Its the body,s reaction to protect and keep less pressure on the nerve,

Have you had any mri to see what the cause is?
Flexicore ADR 2004 resulting nerve damage l4l5 Fusion 2006 same level, 2009 hardware removal with lami !
    2012 scs implant ,
  • yeah I herniated the L5-S1 and it's been degenerating. my last mri was 15 months ago tho and at that time I only had nerve pain in my buttocks with mostly back pain, so Im prolly due for another mri.

  • I get all sorts of pains, tingling and cramping pains in my feet and legs.
I especially get a lot of pain and weakness on the top of my foot and my inner or sometimes outer ankle.
    Often this makes me limp.

    BUT ....

The last couple of days I have really been limping with lots of pain in my right foot and ankle. I had an Occupational Therapy Assessment at work, and that flared up all sorts of pains. I assumed that this pain was from that too. Last night as I went to bed, I realised that I had quite a lot of swelling and even some heat in my right ankle! There is a danger of putting all our pains down to nerve pain from our spine. I think this time I must have been wrong. I have been resting my foot today, and the swelling is going down and the pain is reducing.

  • L5/S1 spondylolisthesis has caused me to limp and swing my leg outwards for some reason, had surgery recently on my spine. Nerve has continued to cause problems more so around the outside of my lower leg and ankle and under my foot, recent nerve block helped for only 1 week now it's all coming back.

I have problems with my ankle movements my brain tells my foot to move but it only moves very limited.leg can get very cold and twitches to the point of muscle spasms.

Go get someone to look at your scan or get a new one, things don't seem to get any better with time just more degeneration.

Surgery has helped my lower back pain considerably and helped a little with nerve problems they are not as intense since surgery but are still there.

hope you find some answers Des

  • I have moderate muscle tone loss in my calf on my sciatic side, and when I start walking from a sitting position, I almost always limp, even if I don't have any sharp pain. Once I get going, the limp almost disappears, but the lack of power on my right side does create a bit of a limp for me.
