Chiropractor just two weeks ago found a genetically fused C5-6 in my neck. I am in much pain. I am 24 and work as a beautician which is painful. Will have an MRI in 2 days cause Chiro therapy hasn't helped. Very concerned. Left arm hurts and feels weird at same time. Starting to drop things. My mom has deg neck disease and has had her C5-6, 6-7 fuse surgically but still in pain. Surgery was no help. What do they do do for genetically fused discs. Can they be infused, lol. I don't know anything except pain right now. Just found this site and is helping.

  • Hi it seems we are kindred spirits, same congenital fusion of c5-6. I am 27 and now teach Beauty therapy..... As neck pain got to severe to do services. In my case the site of the fusion itself is fine, its the discs above and below that are the issues, have stenosis at all cervical levels C2-3 & 3/4 being the real problems. I of course like you blamed the fusion for all of my troubles.... Mine was found when I was 12 and since the age of about 14 have struggled with pain. My advice.... Get a good neuro.. Takes forever here in Melbourne.! I often think I should of done something about it earlier. My discs are serverly degenerated and I'm living on pain killers that I hate, I'm now trying to get an appointment with a pain management doctor which I had never ever been told existed until I joined this site.
Please keep me updated I'm curious to see if we have similar symptoms.

  • Hi Belle, I'm sorry to hear about your genetic fusion, I'm having an ACDF C5-6 scheduled for July 10, 2012. I also have a genetic fusion in my lower back, my L5 and S1 are fused was told it was a birth defect. Wishing you the best for your future. God Bless, Joe

  • I have a congenital fusion of C5-6 also. I am much older than you. I currently have severe DDD and am looking at a ACDF sort of 3 level. Fuse one level above and one below and hold it all together with plates and screws. My recent OS cautions me that this might cause Adjacent segment degeneration but I already have that now. I am still getting a second opinion. I have tried many tx. With limited success. I have always had neck pain on and off since I was a child. I didn't know I had a congenital fusion until I was 44. There is limited info about the effects of this condition. If you google Klippel Feil deformity you can find some info. PM me if you would like more info.
Severe DDD. Klippel Feil Deformity. Cervical Foraminatomy that turned into Lamy. I have tried so many treatments, therapy's and medications.
  • Hi, i have c3/4 congenitally fused and they think that this over time has put extra pressure on the others so now i am due to have c6 removed and have a case and metalwork put in, two discs removed and have given permission for them to do anything else while they are there! on mri looks like every disc is compromising chord. i also have an extra bone in the bottom of my back and am sure that will be the next area to tackle! my congenital one was discovered when i had my first child and soon found myself crying trying to carry him. they did offer to operate then but i declined as i didnt like sound of risks, so i learnt to sort of live with the pain, but now i know there is no option for my but surgery and although terrified just want to be on the other side of it!
  • Since last post. Doctors found an extra rib on C7. Neurosurgeon referred me to vascular surgeon. Vascular doc found extra rib and 1st rib is impinging nerves and vessels. He will do surgery 5/30 to remove 1st rib. Procedure is called Thorasic Outlet Decompression. I don't know anyone who has had this. I am hoping this will fix things and I will regain strength in left arm and pain goes away and I can resume my job as a beautician. Wanted to update those who responded to my post. I will update after surgery. I will have a 4-6 week recovery period. Back and neck pain is terrible and I pray you all find good doctors who can give a diagnostic reason for your pain and improve your quality of life. It is a journey in communicating our problems to getting the proper diagnostic opinion for help.
