increase in pain at 18 days poat op

Hi all. I know that my surgery this time out (removal of old 2 level PLIF and basically a new 3 level PLIF) was more extensive than the last one. But yesterday, on day 18, I have started to experience some of the worst post op pain I've had in almost 2 weeks. It's centered arounf my lower back and spreads laterally to both sides just above my pelvis. My incision area is closed with no signs of infection. I spiked a fever two days ago for a few hours but that went down and has not returned. bowels are doing as well as can be expected on narcotics (2 senna 8.6 twice a day, lots of fiber, fresh fruit and liquids). I'm trying to follow the docs walking regimen..10-15 minutes at a time up to 4 times a day with walker. but with the pain it's hard.

Is this an expected occurance? I don't remember it happening like this the last time.
TIA, moeck

  • Hopefully by now you have called your surgeon. When things begin to get worse, that is what they are there for. Many times members will experience more pain a few days post surgery as the meds they put in during surgery wear off, but you seem a bit far for that to have happened. So hopefully it has gotten better for you and you called the surgeon.
