Approximately how long or how far should I be walking?

  • Depends how you feel, If you can walk to the store and get me some smokes and back should be just far enough,

that would be great but Dr. said I had to quit smoking in order for the fusion to work. I have been doing 15 ~ 20 min. twice a day on treadmill. If weather is good I walk outside.

  • 6 wks. post-op and I noticed the swelling and bruising had pretty much subsided a couple of days ago. Felt good yesterday when I got up so I did a little more around the house ( within Dr.s orders). By evening I was feeling a lot of discomfort, so I iced my back and not much relief. Had my husband look at my back and he said swelling and bruising is back. Is this normal? If it continues I will be calling Dr.
  • Ampavy: hi. Yes, sounds like you over did it. Hopefully, only a minor setback for you. It's a challenge to do enough to get the body healing process progressing but without going too far.

Have you tried hot packs? I find them to be good. Be careful not to burn yourself. Gets the blood drawn to the area and tends to release spasmed muscles.

Yeah, talk to your doctor if you are worried.

    Good luck.
  • I have not used hot packs, I use homemade ice packs. The swelling now appears to be mainly around where the hardware is. I am finding out the hard way as to my limits. Thanks for the input.
