3weeks post op microdiscectomy L4-L5

I am 3weeks post op microdiscectomy. I have had less pain each day. I have started doing some back exercises and stretches. I am still on some pain meds. I started driving a little this week and I am just taking things slow. I hope my recovery keeps getting better as time goes by.

  • Just don't overdo it, and stay within the parameters that your surgeon gave you until he/she gives you the all-clear. I've called my doctor's office a couple of times when adding an activity seemed to be a good idea, and gotten his take on it before proceeding. And don't drive if you feel like you are a little sluggish with the medication, in case of a fender-bender, you could conceivably be charged with driving under the influence. I'm about seven weeks postop, and limit my driving to non-busy times and short distances.
I'm not a spinal diagnosis. I'm a human being with a spinal diagnosis.

I am glad to hear that you are doing well. It looks like you are a few weeks ahead of me, as I am now 3 weeks post-op. Like you, I am doing a little better each day. I am now walking 40 min twice a day, but still pretty restricted with sitting. I don't see my surgeon until week 5, and I am not sure I can go that long without driving. I can't wait to start stetching and strengthening again, but my NS seems to be pretty conservative, and I am just trying to be patient. A better outcome seems more important than being in a rush. Hope you are continuing to progress!
