I just need to vent. The pain is excruciating and oh I fee so depressed atm with this. I cant take my kids out I cant dress myself! I cant even pass wind without screaming! Just to add some humour, true but! To cut it short I am 38 with degenerative disc diseaee, 3 are almost gone, two are pressing into spinal cord by 25% one has a fissure where its leaked into the cord area. There is more but thats the lump of it. I use crutches to walk with and have tingling in leg and arm. The shooting pain in leg is a killer and I cant extend my leg even move in bed without screaming. Going to the bathroom is painful. I hav to wait till april to see a surgeon, I had to finish at my favourite job ever and struggling as a single parent! Want it alllll to end. The daily dread of waking and being in so much pain and windering if its gunna be a good day or bad! Im sscared at the thought of surgery and how I will take care of my kids as I am quite isolated with no family. If anyone can offer advice I would love to hear it :) thanks

  • Hi I understand your frustration, well sort off I've been suffering from sciatica since I was 20 and yeah it sucks. Can't play sports due to my disc protrusion at L5-S1 and the problem is that I get bilateral sciatic pain. Is there a Upper Cervical Chiropractor in your area? Thats what i do anyways he does something to your neck and it relieves the pain to a more manageable level. Thats what i do at the moment to manage my pain. I rather cry of pain than to take any pharmaceutical

Thanks for ur comments, I have battled with this for 20 or so years, but has become severe within the past few months. I did chiropracticcare and he was very helpful but he ened up not wanting to touch too much as its quite severe and dosnt want to aggrivate the area. I wernt really geetting any benefit from the treatment. Have done lots of other non invasive treatments but its time to get it sorted. Just dealing with it gets u down somedays, specially wen its bad pain. Hope to offer advice to others at some stage. Thanku

I'm so sorry you are going thru this, but there are some very nice people on here who will listen to you vent and try to help you in any way they can. I hope you find relief soon.
  • So sorry you still have to wait so long to see the specialist. I know it must feel like eternity. Hang in there. The fear of surgery might be great, but so is the fear of continuing to miss out on your life with all the pain you are experiencing. I assume you are already icing and stretching several times a day. Perhaps you can google some more stretches that might can help you for now. Hang in there. Maybe by Fall you'll be able to go back to your favorite job, or maybe even find and even more favorite! I suggest that you start planning all the things you are going to do next winter when you are feeling better. That will give you some motivation.
33yo mom of two. My surgical history...preadolescence scoliosis, kyphosis, and a hot mess.... 5 spine surgeries and lots of items added I wasn't born with (titanium, peek, surgical steel). Guess cremation is out. TSA loves me.

Hi Beckj, I am new to this site and you're my first post :). So it may be a bit long winded. I know exactly what you mean about wishing it would end. I can't imagine what it would be like with children. Kuddo's to all of you! I have been dealing with head, facial neck pain, light sensitivity, sound sensitivity, back pain, chronic migraines, back pain, the list goes on but I'll stop there, for 30 years. 14 years ago it became disabling. In November I just wanted to end it. Since I made it past my B-day it was too close to the Holidays. I was thinking of my family. Of course I didn't know how I was going to make it through the Holidays. Long story shorter, in December I went to a NUCCA doctor with an attitude. I had tried a chiro before and an orthepedic surgeon who took x-rays and said everything was fine. The NUCCA doc was very patient with me and the more I learned about it the more it made sense. NUCCA is not a traditional method for upper cervical spine. I wasn't about to let anyone touch my neck, face or jaw. But the more I learned about it with my own research, watched video's on the technique, the more I realized I can not not try this. I ended up talking with one of his patients randomly who had several neck and leg surgery's and could barely walk, couldn't use his left arm when he first came to this doc. Now the guy was much improved and chipper as can be. He was probably in his late 20's. I've been going to this doc for 2 months now. I know because of my situation and age it will take longer for me to hold and heal. But I am confident this will help my pain tremendously. I had slipped in my tub in September wich made my existing symptoms even worse. Knocked my jaw off kilter (I have TMJ and have to wear a device night and day), hurt the middle of my back. After a few weeks of treatment those were back to where they were before. That was a 3 month injury. The muscle around my hip is looser, all my muscles including my neck, back, legs are looser. I don't feel like gravity is pushing my head into my neck anymore. My posture feels better than ever. All from little adjustments on my neck. The adjustment doesn't hurt, crack or click. I feel instant relief all over my body when he adjusts me. I did alot of reasearch online first. The more I did the more I liked the idea. There has been alot of damage to my jaw joint and neck because of the muscles constantly pulling my head down but I know that this will just enhance the stability of my jaw orthotics.. It won't heal the damage that is already done but it really may help your chances for surgery success and lessen your pain all around. Hang in there!
