How long till sutures dissolve?

I had 4 level ACDF on Jan 3. The wound was reopened because of infection on Jan 17. Once swelling decreased, I could see and feel sutures. I am supposed to massage the scar several times a day. When I do, I can feel those sutures and they sort of creep me out.

Did anyone else take this long for sutures to dissolve? I am less than 8 weeks from the second closure.

I developed an infection which required reopening the wound on January17th
Looking forward to life without as much pain!

  • Penny, you should be getting close = within the next couple weeks. It could be taking longer than you expect because of having to have it re-opened. It's almost 2 years since my surgery and the scar has really lightened and it helps where the put the scar that it isn't that noticeable.

Good luck with a terrific recovery!

  • My scar will be more noticeable. I had 4 levels done and the scar is more vertical than horizontal. I am not overly concerned about that. It could not be helped. I would like the sutures to dissolve. I sure don't like feeling them.

    thanks

  • Are you positive what you are feeling isn't hardware related? Stitches creep me out. I hope yours dissolve soon.

ALIF/PLIF and I can still feel the internal stitches in my abs. They are creepy and I wish they'd hurry up and diminish too. :-/
  • I see the stitches. They look like nylon fishing line. I am massaging daily, hopefully they will go away soon.
