I am a 38 year old medically redeployed Registered Nurse who also suffered a work related accident. My accident happened when a patient on a zimmer frame fell backwards into me - this was in June 2010. I'm not sure what happened (have blanked it out) but I have suffered from severe lower back pain with sciatica ever since. I have now became disabled and have to use crutches for short distances and a wheelchair for longer distances.

Despite two MRIs, three spinal surgeon consults, four epidurals, hydrotherapy, physiotherapy and various pain killers they have never been able to find anything structurally wrong in MRI scans or what is causing this pain. I have also completed a pain management course.

I now work in a computer administrator role and miss nursing terribly but can't work as a nurse. I have seized up sacroiliac joints but no-one can do anything. Over the last two weeks my pain has got extremely bad 9/10 or even 10/10 sometimes despite being on opiates, pregabalin, codeine, meloxicam. I'm housebound at the moment and hate being off work. My pain just isn't settling down and worse when I move.

I keep visiting GP but they just load me with more pain relief, can anyone help?

I saw a neuro doctor in December 2012 but she was very unhelpful. I think she thought I was making it up as normal MRI!! She noted my lack of sensation in my legs but told me to do without crutches and do without painkillers! My doctor this week has referred me back to her for her opinion and to see if she can help! I asked my doctor if an xray would be appropriate but he didn't think it would be useful. Hope your recovery is swift.
