an ACDF is performed due to disc herniation, does it relieve nerve root impengement which causes radiculopathy? yes however that is not the only reason for the treatment. If your surgeon feels your issue is bad enough for an ACDF then I would listen. If you do not trust your surgeon's opinion get a second or even third opinion. However, realize that if you keep getting other opinions and they keep coming out the same that just means you are trying to avoid a surgery that you need. A nerve can be pinched and not be symptomatic yet by the way. So you may need an ACDF due to discue herniation and nerve impengement but not be showing symptoms yet of the nerve issue but a year from now it may be bad or it may nerve ben an issue. Just like nerve damage tests may show no or low nerve damage on someone with strong symptoms and may show strong nerve disfunction on someone with no symptoms at all.
