l5-s1 when will I feel better

I am a new member of this forum and I have never been a member of a forum before. I am finally at my wits ends and really need some advice and support. March 2013 I have a spinal fusion (L5-S1) and spinal laminectomy. I have been in a lot of pain ever since. I am really getting impatient and frustrated. I have been in PT for a few months now and not showing any progress. Today I find out that my surgeon will not write a script for my pain meds (they didn't really help a lot anyway). So now what? I just suffer all day, everyday? I am in pain all day long. My doctor doesn't seem to listen to me. What can I say or do to get her attention? I am to the point I want to switch doctors but not sure if I would be able to. I am wondering if I should ask for an injection in my back to relieve me of the pain, is this heard of after surgery or am I grasping at straws? I had a MRI about 1 1/2 month ago and it showed some swelling around the screws and nerve damage, but my doctor doesn't seem concerned. My physical therapist states how tight and tender my muscles are and how "grizzly" they are, I think he means rough and rigid. Sometimes I wonder if she is just putting off my concerns because she doesn't want a failed back surgery on her record. I am asking for any suggestions on what I can do to get my doctor to take me serious! Thank you in advance.

  • Spinal fusions are meant to stabilize the spine. There is no guarantee of pain relief.
Discectomies 05/08 and 04/11, fusions L4-5 Feb 9,2012 and L3-L4 June 28,2012, Staph infection washout 3/2/2012, Bulged L5-S1. SCS trial on January 17th, 2014, which was a success! Permanent SCS on February 20th.
  • Why don't you try Pain Management? Or maybe a second opinion.
Artificial disc at L5S1 for 10 years. Had 3 Level lumbar fusion and Laminectomy on Sept 27, 2013. It was an OLIF (Oblique Lumbar Interbody Fusion) with cages, BMP, rods & screws. Norco, Plaquenil
