failed fusion

I had a fusion on c 4,5, 6,7 on September of 2012 , the fusion did not take on c 6,7 . I am in chronic pain taking soma four times /day. I have had two nerve blocks and those only helped short term ( few days) The ortho is suggesting surgery ,more hardware . Has anyone else had this same experience? I am 45 , and have been dealing with this neck pain for over three years.
I have tried everything chiro, massage, pt , acupuncture , hypnosis , everything for your neck from amazon.com, special pillows !!

I would be interested in hearing about other peoples experiences !

  • I have had 2 failed Cervical Fusions - ACDF to C3/4/5 in September 2010 and Posterior CDF to C5/6/7 in December 2011. This 2011 operation had to be done twice within 3 days as in first the screws/metalwork became detached!! Have suffered dreadful pain for 3 years but am now awaiting 'BIG' operation from C2/3 to T2/3 in hopefully December 2013. My pain relief is taking 2 paracetemol plus 1 naproxen three or four times a day. This barely takes edge off the pain!

I too have had massage etc but with very little effect on the pain level plus I have also had cervical injections which have helped for a short time only! You can send me a private message with your phone details etc if you reside in the UK and I shall call you should you so wish. I am a retired Naval Officer, a Scot and live in Hertfordshire.

  • I have one level c6-7 in 2010, and it appears to have failed on one side????. I have crazy things going on with my arms/hands. I spinal Dr was suspious, I ordered tests and confirmed, and one neurosurgeon did not agree. All I know is I am NOT right, but can't get a firm answer about what they want to do. I have ESIs, I was like "can't you just shoot some super glue in there" JK
What really bothers me is the symptoms keep getting worse, and I am depressed, and cry a lot. I am not 'a feel sorry for myself person', but it is getting the best of me. Not always, good days - I put up a good fight.
