Removing pedicle screws

I am scheduled to have my pedicle screws removed next Tuesday 10/22 as I'm experiencing pain on my lower right side right on the pedicle screw. My CT myelogram and EMG were both normal although when I received lidocaine injections I had immediate relief but temporary. My question is what is the recovery time and if anyone else has experienced this same problem.
Thanks for any and all help.

  • Hi Stacy,
I am in a similar position - I have pedicle screws between my L2 - L5 vertebrae and since the operation in early 2011 I have experienced increasing pain. After multiple attempts by physics to reduce the pain, and all scans coming back 'fine' I am looking into having the screws removed at some after stage. Until then, I cannot give you any information on recovery times, but my thoughts about my own situation have been that given the fact that I was walking within 2 months of the initial operation to fix my fractured spine, I don't imagine that the recovery time can be any longer after having the screws removed from a fully healed spine...

Please do let me know how you get on! It would be so valuable to have information from people in similar situations when deciding about my own spinal fixation. I wish you all the luck in the world, and hope to hear positive developments in your situation :-)

    Kind regards, Keara
