Returning to work...

I had a L2-L3 laminectomy/discectomy and placement of a coflex implant at the same levels done on 12/23/13. I was supposed to be off of work for 6-8 weeks. I am an otherwise healthy 25 yr old who thought I was super woman and didnt want to miss an important business meeting so I begged and convinced my rather reluctant surgeon to clear me to go back to work after 11 days. I felt okay at the time but day after day I have been getting worse and worse. My nerve pain is back with a vengeance and even traveling into my leg that hadnt been affected before surgery and I have constant dull achy pain all around my incision site. I saw my surgeon's PA yesterday 2 weeks before my 6 week follow up because of my concern and they want to pull me from work or at minimum have me work half days ( I found out through my HR dept that half days arent an option) so basically I would have to go and take full days off from work again when they werent happy about me taking off for the surgery even. I work at an office job at a bank and I really dont want to jeopardize my career with this company but im afraid of doing even more permanent damage to my back. My coworkers arent being overly cooperative with my problems here at the office... any suggestions as to what would be my best decision? anyone else ever been in this situation? HELP please!!!

(12.24.13) L2-L3 Laminectomy, Discectomy and Coflex insertion. DX'ed with Ankylosing Spondylitis on 5/13/14

  • Even thou you are a healthy 25 yr old,you need time to heal. You are jeopardizing your help for a job. Believe me it is not worth it. Take your time going back to work. Even if it means taking more time off. I know what it is like to have coworker who just dont understand. Take care of yourself. If you dont, no one else will.
