Upcoming Spinal Fusion

Hi, I am Jeneen, 52 years old. I have Degenerative Disk Disease, compression fracture and grade 1 slipped vertebrae. I fractured my back (2nd Lumbar) in car accident in 98' and have been in 2 other accidents since then. All three accidents ..by poor choice..I was not wearing a seat belt. So I was thrown through the windshield three times and slammed back into the seat 3 times which only made my back problems worse. By the grace of God ✝→♥ ✝... I am a survivor. Those accidents have caused debilitating back pain from crushed vertebrae that did not heal correctly even after wearing a metal brace for six months. I have been treated for more than a year with spinal epidurals which provided no relief and shots in my hip and facet joints. None of these treatments relieved my pain. I have been taking pain medications for over a year and currently taking Norco 10/325. The Norco does not relieve my pain..just eases it some..so I can walk and move around. I am scheduled for Anterior Spinal Fusion with iliac crest bone graft in March. I am here seeking to chat with those who have had a spinal fusion and can give me an idea what to expect after my surgery. I know that I will experience even more pain before I completely recover. I have been told that my healing process will be from 6-8 months. I know I will not be able to do the things that I once did...like gardening and digging. I have several gardens..my passion :) but I am sure I will be able to find another way to grow things..in pots or have someone else do the digging..lol..I know God will make a way out of no way. I know I want be able to work again. I worked in Textile for many years and I know I want be able to stand on cement floor for 8-10 hours anymore. I miss working..can be very boring ..and not being able to earn an income..can be depressing. Looking forward to meeting and chatting with others that have the same spinal problems or have chronic pain. God bless :)
Mark 9:23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. Oh Lord, help us to feel your calming hand upon us when we are in pain. Amen ✝→♥ ✝

  • Hi Jeneen I am 58 and also have Degenerative Spine Disease. Just had my third back surgery. Laminectomy with fusion on L3/4. Every surgery recovery has been different but in all of them I got immediate relief from pain in legs and hips. First two surgeries I was back to work in 3 months. Please do not try to rush your recovery and follow your Drs advice. This third surgery has not been the walk in the park that the first two were but I find that when I am moving I feel better. Do not bend or vacuum whatever you do. Good luck and I am sure you will be back in garden after about a year I was if that helps
