Unsolved Case of agonising neck pain

Hi
I am posting this in desperation. My partner has been suffering with severe neck pain long before I had even met him. He was once a caring, generous outgoing person but the pain he suffers has worsened more and more as days pass. He has had MRI scans and xrays and been to see muscular skeletal specialists and such but nothing has been found. I am becoming so much more desperate to help him as our relationship has now come to a standstill as he is in that much pain.

It stared when he was younger and was pushing trolleys at our local supermarket. He is also a pilot and is terrified that it is about to effect his career. the pain i see him go through is crazy he has stabbing pain right in the middle of his neck he tenderness spreads but the main point of pain is right in the back of the neck. I rub his back and neck constantly and have felt lumps and bumps but nothing has ever been found on scans. he is in screaming agony when he wakes up and the pain barley gets better through the day. The pain never leaves him to the point that he is depressed and has been on the verge of suicide.

I understand that there is not alot that can be helped over the internet but i have now become desperate. I am searching for anything that could help.

thanks

Lauren

I am really sorry to hear that he has not found out why he is having his pain. I had pain for several years before actually going and having it looked at. It was a relief to find that it was caused by bulging discs. I pray for him that he will find a reason soon so that he can start working on the issue. As for me I just do not have faith in any of our health care system and seems it might get worse. I have now gone to two specialist for opinions. Both of them give me a different MRI reading and both want to do two different surgeries. I have also been to a chiropractor for many years and I have gotten relief from him. He says that I can more than likely get it healed without surgery. I did go on a regular basis for about two months and he did adjustments on me and acupuncture. After 2 months I had no pain and I was only going once every three weeks after the two months and of course I quit going because i felt good and didnt want to spend the $20 co-pay. I think i made a big mistake! I am not sure thought, but one thing i do know is that they all seem to be after my money instead of having a heart and really wanting to help me. My suggestion is that he go see a Chiro and have a few adjustments and see if he gets and relief. I am not a Doctor but that is my opinion. I hope he finds relief.
  • Has he had any physical therapy or massage? Maybe he should consider a 2nd opinion. I get the sore lumps, bumps and tenderness you describe, my dr calls it myofascial pain syndrome. It can get pretty painful at times. I have some right now, I try getting them to go away with heat and asking my husband to massage them when he can.
