Acute Sciatica Left hand side

Hi, I ave had sciatica for over 3 weeks now, the pain radiates from my left buttock and down my leg appearing on the outside of my calf and occasionally in my thigh. I can sit without too much pain and i can lie down OK also (once i've fund my rest position) the time i have issues are standing straight, moving from different positions sitting to standing, lying to sitting, rolling over. If i sit on the floor and straighten my legs then the pain is terrible, i have problems walking (unless dosed up on pain killers). The thing is i don't feel like i'm improving, each morning i wake up with a deep throb in the effected areas making it hard to get out of bed. I have had a couple of sports massages and recently saw on osteopath who i'm seeing again tomorrow. Trying to keep positive but hate the fact i don't feel like i'm improving without painkillers. I have a really busy schedule coming up and need to know if its likely i will improve?
