lymphedema of leg after alif. not blood clot.

had xlif 1 month ago. the side of incision, had leg swelling. had dipolar on leg, no blood clot. swelling has gone down but still swollen. why has it not gone away? thanks thelpierce

  • I'm 3 weeks post op 360 alif/plif and having same issues. Having CT MYLEOGRAPHY in next few days or so.. Well wishes to you!
    Grade 1 Anterolisthesis/Spondy L5/S1 with Modic changes and mild disc protrusion, DDD, Osteoarthritis L2/L3, Stenosis, Sciatica, Herniation L4/L5. Scheduled for 360 spinal fusion/decompression July 1, 2014.

  • can be mostly related to your legs being in a dependant position after surgery. That is one of the reasons that walking, in short spurts is strongly encouraged and recommended. Sitting too long, laying down too long with your legs not elevated above your heart, standing too long causes the fluids to travel down into the tissues and without flexing your calves, and staying in one position too long, or too often during the day without using flexing of the muscles allows the fluids to accumulate.
    The risk of blood clots also increases.

    Thank you for the information. Have CT myleography scheduled for 8/13 as I've been doing everything I am supposed to be doing and still having issues. Ultrasound done at hospital should some things (course they said Dr would explain) which is why while I was still at hospital Dr immediately ordered the CT myleography. Will keep posted. Thanks again for your invaluable information. :)
