living with scs & other surgery

Has anyone have any other kind of surgery after scs implant. Did having major surgery or being under anesthesia for long interfere with the stimulator.

  • Unless the surgery is in the same area as the stimulator leads or the battery, having another surgery shouldn't have any effect on the unit, nor should anesthesia.
  • I dont know if you talking about other back surgeries or not, but I have had a gastric bypass since my scs my was put in. It had no effect on the unit what so ever. As for back surgery, the NS told me that they put the leads in a different location rather than along side the spine, to leave room in case of the need to have further back surgeries.
Discectomies 05/08 and 04/11, fusions L4-5 Feb 9,2012 and L3-L4 June 28,2012, Staph infection washout 3/2/2012, Bulged L5-S1. SCS trial on January 17th, 2014, which was a success! Permanent SCS on February 20th.
