hELP, I am 72, fell 6 mo ago and had a compressed fractured vertebrae in 6 mo's it is no better, they say its not healed, don't wanta do surgery, I have my second appt. with a surgeon soon. the first advised me no surgery. what happens to a unhealed vertebrae. THE dr. said it may get better or worse or stay the same, . I am lost. Can you die from this. ?. Jane

    Hi Jane,

    I know you must be scared and feeling awful but only your doctor can advise you on the best next steps. Surgery isn't always required for a fractured vertebra though, and it can heal on its own. I would suggest writing down all your questions and going back to your doctor or consulting a second opinion.

    Take good care of yourself in the meantime. Ask for help if you need it and stay on top of your pain. Hugs
