bulging disc in lower lumbar

I have bugling disc in all my lower lumbar. the Ll5 to S1 is the worst. It is a 7mm bulge that intrudes on the up and down root nerves. I injured my back when I was 23 and have never received any treatment. I am now 57 and have oa in my knees. Was this damage to my caused because of my back?
