Pain coming back after microdiscectomy

I'm a 19 year old female who had a microdiscectomy on the L4-L5 disc about 4 months ago. I had almost immediate relief from the sciatica, and I had been feeling very little pain whatsoever for the past two months (I was only bothered occasionally when lying down). However, the deep cramping in my lower back and a slight bit of numbness in my leg has come back. I'm afraid I began working out too soon after surgery. Should I be concerned? Or should I just rest it for now and wait to see what happens? I'm extremely nervous.

Thank you!

  • If you're really worried I'd call your surgeon.

I reherniated after 3 1/2 weeks & when I mentioned to my surgeon (at my 5 week post op visit) the re occurance of symptoms he sent me off for a MRI.

I hope it settles for you without any intervention.
