I had surgery on Feb 28 of 20 13..went to my orthopedic dr a month ago, I was having a little discomfort in my neck, arm, numbness, the surgery I had was acdf....C_3 c6 c _ 7 . surgery went great! All was heal, no pain. So when I went back he did a xray of my neck plate and screws all looked great. So we did a mri
That came back showing a bulging disc, and extremely bad arthritis in my neck! At the time I was in no pain at all, he suggested to have a epidural for my arthritis. I have not done that yet due to work. That was two weeks ago. Now I'm in horrible pain. Can't turn my neck, have to keep looking forward. When I sleep I use a towel and wad it up, it worked before my surgery but not much luck with it now! When I had my last surgery I was never in this much pain! My question is why am I in so much pain now ?. He said we would discuss surgery about my bulging disc later. I'm ready to have it today if I could. Made another appointment to see him......but can't get in till 31st of this month! I'm not even sure if I can wait that long. I work as a dietary aid at a hospital. For the first 3 hrs I run trays to rooms....their not heavy. The next 4 hrs I'm on the phone with patients taking their orders for lunch. What am I hurting so bad now!? I'm taking Oxycodone 20 mg it barely takes the pain away! Please help me as to what has happened. Thank you all! ANY ADVISE IS WELCOME! GOOD OR BAD!

  • I'm a lumbar Spiney. I can sympathise and offer some tree hugging remedies your way. Please try not to focus on the pain. Distract yourself and get in to see someone as this is new isn't it?
  • No I had surgery acdf. ....almost 2yrs ago. But now I have a bulging disc. The pain is horrible
Never had any issues with my last surgery just pain at night but in my neck just like before I just used a towel and wad die it up and put it right under my pillow silly I know but it worked. I had NO PA IN LAST TIME

  • at why you are hurting more now, since you saw the doctor. You can always call and ask to be put on the cancellation list if the office has one.
  • Does your doctor have you on any anti-inflammatory meds? After my fusion healed I was still on them. (Just asking) that helped me a lot to keep the inflammation down. My doctor kept me on my lyrica too for flair-ups. If those options are not right for you keeping heat on the area may help. I soak in a hot tub almost everyday. I also wear a soft cervical collar part of my day to rest my neck muscles. That could take some pressure off the hurtful area until you see your doctor. Posture is very important for us neckies doing office work.

I'm having a epidural shot Monday! The 15 can't wait! The disc is swollen putting pressure on my nerve. The epidural shot is supposed to shrink the disc! I pray this works. I realize this is not a permanent fix but hopefully enough that I can go back to work for a while to build up my sick leave. I've already used a lot! Has anyone ever had an epidural shot? For the neck? Wondering how long do they last?

  • Hi,
    I am 30 Years Male.
Since a month i was feeling shoulder and neck pain i thought its a normal pain/mussel strain and changed my pillow, but nothing works. I visited a doctors he suggested me for a x-ray In X-ray report it shows "Very Small osteophytes are noted at CV5, CV6., Impression : Cervical Spam Very early changes of cervical spondylosis"

Doctor given me some pain killers and suggested some exercises, nevertheless I was shocked and afraid of this problem.

After 3-4 days i visited spine specialist, also this doctor said x-ray is normal nothing to worry about it and given only pain killers for 15 days and suggested for neck exercises.

Now by passing the days my pain increase and also now having upper back pain, i don't know what to do ??

    guys please help

Most people recover completely from a whiplash injury in the first six weeks. Others’ symptoms continue to improve over the course of a year. There is a 40% chance of experiencing some symptoms after three months, and an 18% chance after two years. No reliable way exists to predict the prognosis.

  • hi i have same problem with everyone on this board problem with lots of pains where c5,c6 are and it radiate up behind RIGHT side of my Head ,i have done Ct scan mri and it show normal got my heart checked out as well all normal i also feel light headed and dizzieness it came and go and also feeling passed out but never did.i only get numbness and tingling some time
  • I had three Epidurals every seven weeks until surgery. They took a couple of days to work but help and gradually the pain comes back. Mine was given with IV and muscle relaxer while xray guided insertion of epidural. I felt completely at ease and it is a must to lay down afterward for several hours to prevent headache.
Post op I get target point injections 11-15. I get every three weeks as I refuse to go on narcotics again. They pinch slightly and hurt until the next day but are effective for three to four weeks in my case.
I hope you get relief soon. Happy New Year!!
