Hello I am a 22years old female. I have been experiencing an acute pain in my lower back in the past week and the pain in radiating into my lower back.
A GP advised me I may need a surgery based on the radiologist report: "findings: lumbar vertebral bodies appear preserved. no disc pathology in L1/2 - L4/5.
***L5/S1 level: Loss of disc height and degenerative annular bulging complicated by a posterior midline disc protrusion displacing the ventral theca. Extruded nucleus pulpous extends inferiorly left side displacing the left S1 nerve root ganglion. small degenerative end plate osteophytes encroach into the right neural foramen. the L5 nerve roots exit the neural foramina without compromise.
Conclusion: Posterior midline disc protrusion L5/S1 with inferior extension of nucleus pulpous left side displacing the left S1 nerve root origin.
I haven't seen a specialist yet but I am wondering if a surgery is really the only option or there are other alternative treatments.
Any comment would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much.
