What's next

I had a discectomy 8 montha ago and I have back/hip/leg/foot pain. I had a spinal block 2 weeks ago and I am a little better than before the injection but still having a lot of pain...The surgeon mentioned a spinal fusion but I am terrified to have more surgery. Has anyone experienced this and any suggestions. I am doing acupunture and ultrasound twice a week. Bought my own Tens machine and using it daily, But a short trip to the store exhausts me with the pain...quality of my life is very low and I feel like it will never get better :(

  • Your situation is exactly the same as mine was. I went ahead with the fusion 6 weeks ago and all the horrible pain has gone.

L5-S1 herniation. Both knee meniscus tear. L4-5 herniation - 2 x nerve block injections. L4-5 discectomy. L1-2 nerve block injection. L4-5 reherniation - TLIF fusion. 2016: L1-2 and L5-S1 retrolistheses and multiple facet joint degeneration.

Have you looked at any alternative types of treatment? Fusion is pretty much a one way street.

I used spinal decompression therapy with quite a bad L4/5 protrusion. Am perfectly fine now. Everyones different I know but I'm all for trying conservative therapy before going ahead with something as drastic as surgery.
