Hi, I have never used an online forum before, but I'm needing help/support. I’ve been dealing with my back issue for almost 10 months. I was in a plane crash in 1999, but didn’t suffer any physical injuries, or so I thought. In 2001 I began having cervical pain and the associated radiculopathy which was treated conservatively at the time, then later with epidural injections 2006 to 2012. August 2014 I began having pain in my SI joint, which moved into the lumbar spine. The SI and Lumbar MRIs showed some moderated to advanced change. In January I reached for a tissue heard/felt something pop between my shoulder blades. The MRI showed that 4 disc in the T-Spine were herniated as well as some new scoliosis. My neurologist and pain mgt doctors just want to throw drugs at me and aren’t interested in other approaches much less my insurance.
Now I’m in constant pain. I feel a crawling sensation up and down my spine and it feels as if my spine it trying to twist. I’m losing weight, don’t sleep welll, as there's no way to get comfortable. I can’t even think clearly anymore. It took me over an hour to compose this because I can’t seem to spell properly. My massage therapy business has gone down the drain and it’s getting difficult to get motivated to see and get turned away from another doctor. I’m, going back to acupuncture next week. I was in Colorado in December and used some wonderful transdermal CBD patches.
Thoughts/comments, Thanx!

You said that your neurologist and pain management doctors only want to give you meds...aren't interested in other approaches much less your insurance.....

I'm not really understanding what you mean, esp re' insurance.

Why have you been turned away from doctors?

My PM/neurologist did a sleep study on me years ago. I was near crazy and difficulty coping with pain and being so sleep deprived.
He was able to see something and able to medicate me so sleep is more complete most weeks.

    Hang in there!

  • Deeannmariee,
the patches relieved all pain and muscle spasms within 5 minutes of application. It lasted for 12 hours and there were no side effects.
  • Hi Savage,
Sorry for the confusion. Insurance was supposed to be 'interest'. I've seen rheumatologist, dermatologist, gastrointestinal, cardiology and psych. They have all said there's nothing else going on. I took it upon myself to get tested for Lyme disease and received my positive results today. Not one of these doctors who looked at all my symptoms thought about testing me. Now my spelling problem and inability to think clearly makes sense. It's called brain fog. The steroid injection I got 2 weeks ago has made things worse, because Lyme makes you allergic to steroids.

    Take care

Sorry about the Lyme disease....but good for you to be persistent to discover it.
I certainly hope docs are paying attention to you now.

At least now, PM can change their approach and start thinking of more effective ways to manage your pain. Now they know to stop with the steroids since you now allergic.

Don't worry about the spelling. It happens to many of us and sometimes it's the way the computer tries to anticipate the word and fills it in for us.
I share the brain fog, freeze, word on tip of my tongue syndrome. :). My cognitive abilities have taken a hit for sure.

Although it may take some time actually typing to share on this site...hopefully you can continue to work through it.
Lots of info here and looking around and sharing can be a positive distraction.

Best wishes to you with you treatments.

  • Indeed my cognitive abilities are frustrating especially since I am attempting to keep a diary of my symptoms. I'm a writer too and am unable to complete projects that were started months ago. My thoughts are all over the place. Sigh!
Will be calling my PM for an appointment today.
I'm so glad I found this site. Though I never want to see other suffering, it's a great place to share, vent and as you said provide a positive distraction.
Thank you so much : )
Will definitely keep you up to date.
  • Lyme is scary enough by itself, but the cognitive issues can throw you for a loop too...a side effect of one of my meds is that it affects verbal communication (word recall) etc. And i know it is super frustrating. Best of luck in the future.
