Pain after POsterior Lumbar Fusion L5S1 area

I had posterior lumbar fusion in the L5S1 area on 5/8/15 due to lumbar disc degeneration. Prior to this surgery, I had a sour grey for left leg sciatica on 10/5/14, in which they just shaved bone off my vertebra that was sitting on the nerve. After 6 weeks I still had sciatica. I was given another more extensive MRI which showed the disc degeneration, therefore advised to have fusion surgery. I also had no idea about nicotine being a problem as I have represented myself to my insurance company as a non-smoker to receive insurance. I was using low nicotine e-cigs up until surgery. I stopped after, when I happened onto this site after fusion surgery. I am still having pains after it being about 7 weeks after surgery. I am wearing a back brace while up. I do go for short walks. I am being weaned off Fentanyl patch, starting at 50mg, which I had on for quite a while. I am wearing 37mg now, & taking about 3 Norco a day, 1/2 every four hours with a Tylenol thrown in. I am concerned about the nicotine, but I absolutely cannot tell my doctors due to my insurance coverage. It would skyrocket. Are other people still in pain after 7 weeks post op?

  • Has anyone experience with when pain should be subsiding after an L5-S1 posterior lumbar fusion for basically a sciatic nerve problem on left leg? I haven't much relief at all.
