PLEASE HELP ME!! I am new here and this is my first post. I have an EXTENSIVE spinal fusion surgery history. I've had SEVEN back surgeries (5 of which were spinal fusions). Approximately 8 months after my last surgery in August 2013, I started to develop severe sciatic in my right leg. At first, it was vague aching behind my right thigh - within 2 months and a bout of physical therapy, it turned into SEVERE pain and throbbing starting deep in my right pelvic/buttock region, traveled down the back of my right leg, down thru the center of my right calf and into my achilles tendon and right hell (not my foot or arch, JUST my heel). WTH?? It has put a stop to my life as it hurts to do everything except lay down in bed and go to sleep. Sitting for ANY length of time, let alone driving (it is my "driving" leg!!) is sheer agony. I can't sit at the table to eat a meal with my husband and kids. I am an Occupational Therapist of all things and the fact that I am even (BARELY) able to work astonishes everyone. I sit with my leg elevated in a recline 90% of the day with ice on my right butt/pelvis and heat down the back of my thigh. I see pain mgt every 2 months and the meds and caudal epidural injections have done absolutely nothing. The docs are a loss. They referred me BACK to my orthopedic surgeon and i see him on August 27th. I don't know what to do. I have no life. I have no quality of life. I am in so much pain....CONSTANTLY and can not bare the thought of living the rest of my life like this...existing and NOT living. Does anyone else have any experience with this?? What do you do?? PS: I had CSF leak repair after my last surgery at around T10-L1 level and pelvic fixation with HUGE screws. I'm wondering if the screws punctured the sciatic nerve/space?? Are there any DIAGNOSTIC TESTS THAT WOULD SHOW THE SCIATIC NERVE OR DAMAGE TO IT???? Please, ANY information would be so very greatly appreciated. Thank you.
