I finally saw my neurosurgeon yesterday and he confirmed my worst fears, it's time to have surgery. I had been anticipating having to have neck surgery for many years due to a car accident back in 1995 (I was broadsided by a salt truck). I knew then the area of C-4 through C-7 was pretty bad, C-6 had apparently been fractured, which I was not told about until recently. My spine is basically curved backwards as well, due to the C-6 issue, which is also pushing on my spinal cord. I also have disc degeneration with height reduction, spurring, myelomalacia, a syrinx because of lack of cerebral fluid not being able to flow freely. pinched nerves, you name it, I got it seems like! The pain, weakness, tingling, numbness in my left shoulder, arm, hand into my fingers is extreme, feels like my shoulder blade and neck muscles are going to explode and the "numbness" is both numb and feels like I have been burned on those areas. The falling asleep feeling is also beginning to go to the right side as well, although not nearly on the same scale as the left. I know many on this site recognize and have these symptoms and more! I feel for anyone and everyone who has had to or is dealing with chronic back and neck issues, it is no joke!!!
My question, after a long winded explanation, is has anyone ever had Cervical Spine Reconstruction Surgery with Strut, Anterior and possibly Posterior fusion? If so, how long was recovery (I was told a minimum of 4 months off work..ugh.)? Any tips or helpful tricks to aid in recovery? How long was your surgery? etc., etc., I plan on also visiting the forums/posts regarding things to have for surgery and recovery.
