Question for those that have had a one level ACDF

I got a letter from my ins. co today & it said they wouldn't cover an overnight at the hospital after surgery. If a problem arose they would re-evaluate. My surgeon said there would be a one night stay when I went for my 1st visit consult. Did anyone go home the day of surgery? We live 86 miles from the hospital.

  • I had a 3 level with corpectomy, and only stayed one night. I've seen many on here and other forums with one level go home the same day. As long as they said you could stay longer if necessary, you should be okay. Hopefully you have an observant compassionate doctor that will insist you stay if necessary. And if you think you need to (this would be post-op when you're thinking this), then don't be afraid to request it!

  • Thanks for the replies. When I had my back surgery in 2009 & hip surgery in 2012 they kept me a couple of days. I'm almost thinking because of Obama care & more people on ins. the ins. companies are looking for ways to cut cost. We have BCBS federal & it's been pretty good ins.
