Hi my name is Keri I live in Boise Idaho.

I started having sciatica pain down my left leg in Jan 2014. I have had 2 steroid injections, 1 nerve block, pain management, and physical therapy, all but no relief. I have had 2 CT scans and a MRI. The disc in L5 is completely pressed out of its space and into my sciatic nerve. I also have stenosis. I have had horrible pain from the top of my hip down to my foot of my left leg for almost 2 yrs. I have Medicaid and my surgeon said I need Fusion with Laminectomy. Back in Dec of last year Medicaid approved the procedure and my back surgery was scheduled but I had to post phone it because at the time I was homeless. Now several months later, pain is worse, symptoms are worse my Dr again says I need the Fusion with laminectomy. But this time Medicaid is trying to only pay for the Laminectomy but not the Fusion. My Dr appealed the decision, but Medicaid is still only approving the Laminectomy. So now my Dr is calling Medicaid to find out why they aren't wanting to approve the Fusion, especially since they approved it last Dec. My Dr is also going to let them know that just doing the Laminectory alone that it will fail and the chances are much greater that I'll be going back in for the Fusion at some point soon after the Laminectomy which I obviously don't want to happen.
I found this site in hopes that maybe someone might be able to shed a little light on the Medicaid issue. If anyone has any ideas or thoughts as to how to address the issue with Medicaid, because my Dr says I absolutely need the Fusion and Laminectomy together. But I don't have an income and Medicaid is my only way for my surgery to get paid.
The other questions I had are about the outcomes of Laminectomy surgery with or
without Fusion, and recovery and sciatic pain
Thank you
