hello all! it was great to find this site...a little info, first. 2 years ago, i was diagnosed with ddd, spinal stenosis and grade 1 degenerative spondylolisthesis. it was found on an mri after i was having back and leg pain while recovering from knee replacement surgery. therapy, neurontin, 2 epidurals - helped immensely. i also had to have heart valve surgery soon after that, and being on coumadin, they didn't want to do anymore epidurals. because of the 2 problems, i was off work for 9 months. when i returned to work, the back issues kicked in again. medications and therapy again, with some relief. earlier this year, my lower back went into spasms, which sent me to my primary care doctor's office in my PAJAMAS. i'm 60, but as so many of you know, when you are in that much pain, it doesn't matter...i have recently qualified for ss disability, and as hard as i tried to continue to work just a little, i had to listen to my body saying "quality of life is so important, so it's time to let go."
2 weeks ago, my doctor ordered another mri and has put me on dilaudid, which is helping so much. i should hear the results tomorrow, but he said that after 2 years my spinal issues have probably become more advanced, and that surgery will most likely be recommended. my mri was done in . luckily, hubby and i are only an hour away, and i'm sure some of the best surgeons are there.
there is one neurosurgeon locally that i would consider seeing, only because he repaired a cerebral aneurysm on me 14 years ago, and then did a cervical fusion on me 11 years ago, and was and still is considered the best in the city where i live.
i am learning so much from this forum. it's challenging, and encouraging, too. thank you for what you have created here for all of us.i will keep you updated...
