I have had similar pains also...along with the more classic sciatica pain.

You may find it interesting to use the search on this site, upper right on page, re dermatome map.
It helped me to make a little sense of where my pains may be coming from.

Using this search, typing in your concern of sciatica, you may find useful information from articles and or videos.
Personally, I like the videos with visual explanation.
And the video library is huge!
The videos are all transcribe if there is anyone deaf or hard of hearing.

  • My pain is worse if I turn my left leg inwards.. feels as if my leg is coming out of the socket. It also feels "stuck" when I try to lift my leg (getting pants on the in morning is difficult just on this side). I have been going to the chiropractor for almost a year and it's not getting any better.. aches all the way down to the knee.. anyone else have pain in the socket and down the front of the leg?

  • I had spinal surgery about 3 years ago. Since that time I have numbness in my left leg, on the outside of the leg and all of my toes on my left foot. There is pain along with the numbness, which sounds weird, but true. I've been on gabapentin for sometime now and recently realized I was having some major side effects, namely suicidal thoughts and anger. So, I've slowly tapered myself off the meds, but have a terrible time sleeping at night because of the pain and numbness. I've tried massage, acupuncture, anything I can think of, but nothing helps. HELP! I've talked to my doctor and she is not very helpful as to what we can do. Do I need to go see another neurosurgical doctor or what. I have RA also, so I don't know if my other meds are interfering with this med in some way.

You said that you spoke with your doctor and she is not sure what to do?
What kind of doctor is that?

My primary tried to work with my pain about two years before referring me to pain management.
That was best thing for me!

Did you tell Doctor about suicidal thoughts and feeling anger as side effects?
Doctor really needs to know everything.

Curious also, if Doctor knows about and helped you with the tapering off of the medication?

I don't know what kind of doctor would be best, but for me, my pain management doctor treats all of my pains, numbness, painful contortions of my feet and toes, etc...
