Had spine fusion for T4 to L4 in March.  Went in for 4 month checkup last week and was diagnosed with flatback syndrome.  My doctor will not consider doing surgery until I am at least a year from the first surgery.  Starting PT next week to learn to compensate.   Very discouraged and would love to hear from someone who has been in a similar situation.

  • Wow...that is one heck of a surgery you went through.   I'm sorry to hear about the flat back development,  however.
Did your doctor say why he/she won't consider surgery for another year?   I only ask because I've seen members on here who've had revisions done much sooner.
Have you considered getting a second opinion?

  • My doctor is retiring at the end of the summer.  He is going to transfer me over to another doctor in the same practice.  So, I am anxious to see what he says about it.   I also plan to get a another opinion from outside of this practice.  I am very discouraged about everything and having a hard time walking with the lean.  I like your tag..."firm believer in PMA"....I'm trying real hard!

  • My neurologist found that I have flat spine but he has failed to document it in any of my records. He just told me that I have no pinched nerves. And that there is nothing that he can do for me. I can't work and I am at my wits end. My orthopedic says not to let anyone talk me into surgery but there's nothing he can do. I am in pain all the time and the injections and ablations have not worked. I have muscle spasms continously yet no one is putting this in my files. It's not in my head. I fall without notice. Any advice?
