I have had cervical spinal arthritis for 20 yrs. and it has developed into compression of esophagus causing the usual symptoms others write about. However, this compression has resulted into a secondary compression of the back wall of the trachea, causing pain in and around the windpipe as well as affecting the vocal chords. yes, it actually is painful to talk. I don't have access to medical care but must live with this the best I can.
