Scaffolding loose in L4/5/S1 area

I have had MRI Scans also Spect Scan and apparently all is loose in lower back area which is giving me severe pain. My Neurosurgeon with a colleague Surgeon has informed me operation to remove scaffolding then replace it with new upwards to L3 will be very lengthy process and may be done in two stages to avoid undue time under anaesthetic. If anyone has had similar operation please let me know asap. Thanks.
