DYSPHAGIA AFTER ACDF

Three years ago my dad underwent an ACDF that went wrong in that he ended up with a peg. He cannot even swallow his own saliva. He has been on a peg since then a lost allot of weight. Now an ENT specialsit suggested a myotomy but dad is sceptical.

Anyone had similar experience?

  • hello, spiritofscouse!

i'm sorry to hear your father isn't doing well.  i know that the few times my husband has gone through rough spells with his health, i wished i could take his pain on myself because watching him suffer was so awful.  :(

three years is a very long time to be enduring what your dad has been going through!!!  has he had any tests done for thyroid function throughout all of this?  endoscopy?  has he been tested for a possible allergic reaction to the metals in his implants?  i do recall seeing other members here who have experienced dysphagia post-acdf, but by and large, this was a symptom that resolved as they progressed in their recoveries.

i'd like to reach out to another moderator, @bruce%20eitman, as he is familiar with this surgery/recovery, and would likely have some insights into the situation that i do not possess as a lumbar fusion patient...
