Not again! Pain in my back

Hi.  I'm new to this site. 4 years ago I had to ha e surgery for a herniated disk in my lower back that had completely pinched off my sciatic nerve. I couldn't walk. The surgery went ok. But I don't recommend it. I can walk but the list of what I can't do is ridiculous. At that time they said I had a bulged disk on the verge of herniation but "couldn't do anything about it" that is till it actually breaks. I'm in pain every day. Today I got out of bed and BAM something is really wrong. I've learned to be very tolerant to pain but this hurts so bad. I have pain at the bottom of my buttocks both sides and down the backs of both legs to my knees. I know something isn't right. I don't want surgery again.  Any suggestions to help relieve this ungodly pain or an alternative to surgery would be greatly appreciated.

  • I really feel for you.  Back pain and wondering what the heck is going on down there is a scary thing.  Unfortunately, I don't think anybody here is going to be able to tell you anything definitive about what is going on with your back.  What you describe sounds like you've perhaps (not definitely) got something going on there especially given your history of back issues.  Let's hope it'll just turn out to be that you've overextended yourself with exercise, yard work or something of that nature and it's a muscular issue with inflammation causing the problem.  I think to rule it in or rule it out, you need to consult with your doctor.  I wish you best.  Let us know what you find out so we can be supportive of you.

    Hello broken....
Im curious if you are seeing a Pain Management doctor/spine specialist for your pain?
Often times when surgeon thinks you are not, or not yet, a candidate for surgery, he will referr you to pain management  for lessening of pain and monitoring of spine.
