Did it stop if you stopped?

My 16 year old daughter has been diagnosed with Juvenile Degenerative Disk Disease and buldging disks. She has been a gymnast for 8 years. She decided to stop doing gymnastics to prevent further damage and pain. Has anyone improved after stopping a sport or job that was tough in the spine?

It has been almost a year since she was diagnosed, what has happened since then?
    What discs are involved?
What doctors has she seen, and what do they say?
