over the years things have been tried and worked and not worked...just like finding if a drug will kill a bacterial infection-things are researched and tried and investigated and those that actually work go to clinical trials and if they work there then become treatments. Scoliosis repair-bracing, rods, surgery etc have been done for quite a while, so they know that sometimes bracing can help in some instances, while surgery helps in others etc. It's basic scientific research in the beginning, and then honing the procedures and equipment and surgical techniques etc. There's lots and lots of man-years that have gone into developing the treatments that we have today.
