Car accident or weight

I have herniated discs and degenerative disc disease. I was rear ended in July, 2016 but I didn't have pain right after the accident except a sharp pain that went up my spine at the time of the accident I am also overweight my weight has increased over the last few years.  I am wondering what is more likely the cause of the disc herniation my weight or the accident or both? What are your thoughts
