Suddenly Dizzy and Numb Hand

Hi Spine Health, this is my first post and I'm hoping you guys can give me some help on what I've been going through. I'll start by saying I'm a 23 year old male, living in Canada who has been dealing with neck discomfort and pain for about 7 years now.
I have a history of combat sports (wrestling and karate) and weight lifting, which I believe caused my symptoms. The wrestling and weightlifting are the main culprits I believe. Let me explain, during one tournament I found it hard to hold my head up between matches and while doing a seated bench press I looked to the right and something strained and tightened up on the left side of my neck. Ever since those 2 injuries I've slowly gotten worse in terms of my neck being uncomfortable and pain full. I've tried chiropractic and anti depressants. Chiro and other X-rays showed me I have no curve in my neck and that it's actually going the opposite direction. So now within the past month I've developed even more symptoms and went to the er after my left hand and lips went numb. After I came home I've felt very dizzy with bouts of vertigo if I move around enough. This whole situation is really stressful and I cry a lot and am very depressed because of it. I really don't know what to do, I don't think I can work safely if I'm off balance all the time.

My symptoms are: neck pain
ringing in ears
hearing seams to cut out at times in one ear or the other
dizzyness/ vertigo
poping/ cracking in neck when breathing
anxiety/ depression
numbness in left hand
feels like I have scoliosis
neck feels like it gets pulled to left side

Anyone who is going through the same or has gotten relief of these symptoms please help me as I'm in a very low place mentally and physically.

thank you

    Hello LeeMac93 !
When my symptoms of painful spinal issues developed, I stopped with the twisting, bending and lifting..and any other activities that increased my pain of other symptoms.

I may have missed it, but are you seeing a pain management doctor or otherwise spine specialist?
Have you seen your primary doctor about your symptoms?

My primary tried to work with my pain for two years before referring me to pain management.
    Best thing for me!
He understood my symptoms and began tests on me, many I was not aware of at that time.
I continue to work with pain management for lessening of my pain and monitoring of my spine.

And depression often accompanies chronic pain. ....and any transition our body, or life, puts us into.
Please describe your depression and tearfulness to your doctor.

With my depression and anxiety, I referred myself to psychiatrist. I did some talk therapy with therapist specialized in chronic pain and depression.
That was so helpful, I have difficulty putting it into words!
And these do not need to be forever things. Often times just needed during the time of adjusting to or healing from transition.

I chose to continue see psychiatrist for medication management, as I now feel most stable.

The search, upper right on page, is very useful for any of your concerns.

  • Hello Leemac93 and savage!

My name is Nadia (Female, 25 years old) and I live in Jakarta, Indonesia.
I've been suffering for almost 2 years because of "straight neck problem", I just knew that I have the straight neck problem a month ago.
It feels like my lower head and jaw are very heavy and pulled down to my neck.
I feel numb in my hands and feets, mostly on the left side of both.
I can't stand my dizzyness, and when it comes i find that i have trouble breathing.
I also have a little scoliosis but it's still okay and we can barely see it.
My depression and anxiety are very bad. I sleep just 3-4 hours a day because of it.

Do you ever feel like you're almost unconcious? Because it often happened to me.
I've seen neurologists, did MRI, therapy, use memory foam pillow, etc and took numerous muscle relaxant and neurobion.

Knowing your condition give me hope that I'm not alone in fighting these problems.
Do you think yoga and hypnotherapy will help to reduce the symptoms? I'm so hopeless but I will try anything to make it better.

    thank you!
